It is hardly surprising that McCain does not want to raise a stink about the murder of Ambassador Stevens.
McCain went to Benghazi in April 2011 to recruit the Islamic Extremist rebels fighting Gaddafi in the first place.

Benghazi has long been a hotbed of Islamic Extremism.
Many of the Libyans who fought against America in Iraq were from around Benghazi.
After they had come back from Iraq, they fought against Gaddafi instead.
When Gaddafi was toppled Al-Qaeda flags flew in Tripoli.
No doubt the people that McCain recruited in 2011 are affiliated to the same Islamic Extremist groups that were responsible for the murder of Ambassador Stevens in 2012. They may even be the same people.
McCain went to Syria in 2012 to recruit some more Islamic Extremists.
As reported in the NY Times recently, the FSA is almost exclusively made up of Islamic Extremist fighters.
There are quite a few Libyans from around Benghazi that have gone to fight for the FSA in Syria.
