The Boston Bombing and the politics of the Caucasus region Updated 05/01

It is reported that the elder brother of the Boston bombers visited the Caucasus region for about 6 months in 2011/2012.
It is also reported that the FBI were keeping tabs on the elder brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, prior to his visit to the Caucasus, but that they "lost contact" with him after he returned to America.

It is also reported that the Russians were keeping tabs on the activities of the elder brother while he was in the Caucasus and that the Russians warned the Americans on three separate occasions that he posed a threat.

Ever since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the gaining of independence by some of the Caucasus states, the politics of the Caucasus region has been intimately tied up with the vast oil wealth in the Caspian Sea and a battle for influence in the region between Moscow and Washington.
America has been supporting Islamic militants in the Caucases to cause trouble for Putin/Russia ever since the collapse of the USSR.

There is a lot more information that will come out on the background of what led up to the Boston bombing over the next few weeks.
It will also become easier to sort the wheat from the chaff.
It is also very unlikely that the mainstream media will be reporting any of the geopolitical angle to the Boston bombing and the political power games between Moscow and Washington  - which is at the very heart of understanding why the Boston bombing actually happened.
