Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) employment/job number manipulation
Why would the BLS Birth/Death numbers be 53,000 jobs better for January 2013 than they were in Jan 2012 when there was no appreciable difference in hiring for 4th qtr 2012 compared to 4th qtr 2011?
4th Qtr GDP growth was much worse in 2012 than 2011 so the BLS Birth/Death model should of been worse.
Fewer businesses are started up and more are closed down during weak economic conditions.
Because the BLS want to make the economy look better than it actually is.
About 50,000 jobs better for January 2013.
The Birth/Death model adjustment for Jan 2013 is also appreciably better than it was for either Jan 2011 or Jan 2010.
The BLS Birth/Death model is by far the largest factor affecting the job numbers reported in the media headlines.
January Jobs by Age Group
In the last month there were 115,000 job losses (the headline numbers are seasonally adjusted which include a large sprinkling of the BLS whatever they want them to be).
There were 205,000 job losses in the 20 to 54 age group.
There were gains of 106,000 in the 16 to 19 age group.
Total wages just PLUNGED.
The average 19 year old kid does not earn nearly the same amount as the average 30 or 40 year old.
This report just continues a worrying trend.
Well paid jobs in the key 20 to 54 age group continue to be lost.
1 million jobs in this category have been lost since the beginning of 2009.
Average wages continue to plummet.
